About Summit Yachts

Capt. Allen Hughes started his boating life as a young boy in Barnegat Bay, N.J. Allen's love of the sea came from his father, who loved fishing and understood the importance of family time. “My family has wonderful boating memories and adventures,” Allen said. “Our boat outings brought us to many different locales and the trips brought us great joy and excitement.”
Summers were spent fishing at the Jersey Shore, where Allen was given his first boat, a 13-foot Boston Whaler, at the age of 13. There, he learned to maneuver the waterways. Allen moved to Florida with his family while in high school. At that point, boating became a year-round activity. At age 21, Allen earned his U.S. Coast Guard captain’s license. The first boat he captained was named “Sea Biscuit,” based in Stuart, Florida. From there, he fished the southeastern seaboard.
Allen eventually joined the family hotel business and grew his holdings in Daytona Beach. At age 40, he owned three oceanfront hotels, and his company managed two others. To get back to his true love, boating, he liquidated his hotels, and started Summit Yachts. “This has been a culmination of dreams, to create the perfect lifestyle of boating, and to share it with others,” he said. “The thought of helping others explore this lifestyle is an exhilarating thought”
